Madam Koo's- Newcastle Upon Tyne

'Madame Koo's' is one of Newcastle's most popular nightclubs, situated beneath 'Floritas' (another club). Once accessing the bar by the stairs at the back of the building, the lighting becomes significantly darker and the customer is transported to an underground world.

Boothed areas for more intimate gatherings are spread out in a variety of places around the site. Some  are raised high up to allow a view over the busy crowds, and others are lower down making it easier to access the dance floor without being separated from a group seated at the table.

Dark concrete floors are durable and long lasting, made to accommodate large masses of people and deal with drink spillages. It is more noticeable with the lights turned on (as shown in the photos) however at night, when the club is in full swing, customers are less likely to be looking down at the floor.

Rectangular material panels line the ceiling to improve the building's acoustics; this way, the different music from close together rooms do not clash and the sound is absorbed. By placing them on the ceiling, they are less obvious to the customers and almost go unnoticed by being surrounded by black paint.
